Hi and welcome to Abused But Not Silenced. These support forums are run solely by survivors, for survivors and have been created to offer support and understanding to all survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
Childhood sexual abuse has devastating effects that can last a lifetime. These effects can manifest in many ways, ie self harming, drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, phobias, and mental health problems.
The aim of this site is to give every adult who has suffered childhood sexual abuse the opportunity to reclaim their voices and gain the support and understanding they so rightly deserve.
One of the sad facts about surviving childhood sexual abuse is that abuse survivors can spend their lives carrying guilt and shame that does not belong with them. We hope that with the support available through our forums you can gain the strength to redirect that guilt and shame to where it belongs... with the abusers.
Self harm is when people set out to harm themselves deliberately, often in secrecy. This does not necessarily mean they wish to take their own life.
Alcohol and drugs are used by many people to form a block to the pain and emotions that are being felt from emotional, physical or sexual abuse.
Dissociation is a reaction to a traumatic situation, such as childhood sexual abuse, in which a child feels psychologically threatened.
Most phobias are symbolic, and although they appear to make no sense at all, they are the body's way of saving us from a potentially life threatening situation.
It's always best to get things off your chest and out in the open. We provide a portal of contact names and addresses for you to confide and chat to.
If you have any problems with the website or have any questions you would like us to answer, then please feel free to contact us.
